In
1959, Hawaii became the 50th state to join the United States
of America. The state of Hawaii consists of 8 major
islands. The major islands listed from largest to smallest
in size are Hawaii (The Big Island), Maui, Oahu, Kauai, Molokai,
Lanai, Niihau, and Kahoolawe. Hawaii is located roughly
2400 miles off the West Coast of the mainland United States.
Hawaii
is well-known for being an ideal vacation spot with its perfect
tropical weather, beautiful sandy beaches, and friendly people.
People often remember Hawaii for its swaying palm trees,
flower leis, grass skirts, relaxing tropical atmosphere, and
the deep blue waters of the Pacific Ocean.
Oahu
Oahu,
the island with the largest population, is home to the city
of Honolulu. Oahu is also home to Pearl Harbor and
the United States Pacific Fleet.
Honolulu
Honolulu
is the state's capitol and largest city with almost 900,000
people. That is over 70% of the state's total population.
Honolulu is home to Waikiki beach, Diamond Head, and
many other beautiful tourist areas.
